What your money goes on……
Appropriate and sufficient clothing and shoes:

Many people come to us who have been living on the streets for many years or who have been in long term psychiatric care and have little in the way of belongings or clothes to wear.  They often suffer physical health problems such as incontinence too.  Maintaining dignity with appropriate clothing and shoes is essential in moving forward in the life rebuilding process.

£250 will provide appropriate and sufficient clothing and shoes for one service user for a year.

Home Starter kits:

When people leave our care to move into their own flat, they have little money to buy basic household items which can reduce the stress of the move.

£75 pays for a kettle, crockery, cutlery and saucepans.

£15 pays for a box of cleaning materials.

Setting up home:

Many people moving from LCH's support into a new flat are not entitled to a grant or are unable to take out a loan for larger essential household items.

£1,000 pays for a ‘White goods starter pack'

£500 pays for items such as a table and chairs, chair, sofa, bed, mattress and curtains.

Countering loneliness:

Televisions, radios and equipment to play music are invaluable for people who are isolated and/or lonely.  For some particularly vulnerable service users with schizophrenia, they provide a useful distraction from the ‘voices' they hear.

£30 pays for a radio/cd player

£116 pays for an annual TV licence

£99 pays for a portable TV.

Travel Expenses:

In order for service users to access training opportunities to improve life skills and open up routes for job opportunities they need to be able to travel locally.

£4.20 pays for a carnet of 6 saver bus tickets

Homely Environment:

Many service users will have lived in an institutional setting or on the streets for a number of years.  Providing the homely touches of their choosing in their new accommodation is the first step in making them feel ‘at home' in their new environment.

£40 will pay for pictures and rugs.

Developing further supported accommodation services:

LCH has been pro-active for the past number of years in working either alone or with others to develop new projects for homeless people with mental health problems and complex needs. Such an initiative requires substantial funds to purchase, renovate and refurbish a property to the required standard involving several key stakeholders and donors.  Contributions are marked by naming parts of the scheme after donors. We would be pleased to provide further information on costs and proposals associated with our development programme.
